Cash from casinos dips, fiscal-year-end data shows

Revenue-based taxes paid by Vicksburg’s five casinos to local government and public schools slipped by 4.5 percent this past fiscal year, the latest figures show.
Local gaming houses paid a tad more than $10.1 million to the City of Vicksburg, Warren County and the Vicksburg Warren School District during the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, down from more than $10.6 million during 2008-09.
The city receives 65 percent of a 3.2 percent revenue tax on the casinos and collected $6.6 million for the year, down from $6.9 million. Warren County receives 25 percent of the revenue tax and aN 0.8 percent cut of an 8.8 percent state tax on casino revenue, the sum of which totaled more than $2.7 million for 2009-10, down from $2.9 million the previous year. The school district’s share was $759,734 for the year, down from $789,606 last year.
