3rd suspect jailed in botched robbery during dog dealings

The third suspect in a May 18 armed robbery that occurred during negotiations over the sale of a dog was in the Warren County Jail this morning, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Darren Johnson 29, 1151 Short Fort Road, surrendered to Warren County Detective Sam Winchester Sunday night. Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery, Pace said.

Johnson, Fred Johnson, 25, 1151 Short Fort Road, Kevin Cross, 21, no address available and Cable Kelly, 31, 8691 U.S. 61 South, are accused of shooting 26-year-old Justin Vinzant and 27-year-old Travis Scott McCullough at Vinzant’s home on Redbone Road.

The suspects went to the home on the pretense of buying a dog, and the shootings occurred in a botched robbery attempt, Pace said.

Fred Johnson and Cross were released on bond Aug. 27 and Sept. 10.

Sheriff’s detectives are still looking for Kelly, described as black, 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds
