United Way seeking volunteers to help file income taxes

The United Way of West Central Mississippi is looking for people who can help alleviate some of the stress the tax season puts on lower-income families.

The charity organization has teamed up with the IRS in a program called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. The program trains volunteers in the preparation of basic tax forms so they can assist low- to moderate-income families in filing their taxes.

Barbara Tolliver, executive director of the United Way of West Central Mississippi, said, “This program is a way of bringing money back into the community by encouraging people who normally do not file a return to do so. It helps families realize the tax credits they are eligible for.”
