The pedestrian who was killed as he walked in two-lane traffic on U.S. 61 South Wedneday has been identified as Laurence Madison II, 42, of 641 Redbone Road.

Vicksburg Deputy Chief John Dolan said the investigation has not determined whether Madison was walking in the middle of the highway or near its shoulder when he was hit by a Pontiac G6 driven by Demetri Marshall, 59, St. Thomas Court, Mobile.

“I’m pretty sure he will not be charged with a crime,” Dolan said, “because we don’t feel like there was any traffic violation.”

Marshall was taken to River Region Medical Center and transferred to an undisclosed hospital after the accident, police said.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey was not available this morning to say if results of an autopsy scheduled for Madison on Wednesday had been completed.

No other information about Madison was available.
