A former law enforcement officer was found guilty of incest Tuesday by a jury of 10 women and two men who made their decision after only 30 minutes.

London Williams, 40, 4425 Nailor Road, who had held various ranks with the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department since 2003, faces up to 10 years in prison on the charge, the lesser of two for which Warren County prosecutors argued. Sentencing was set for Nov. 19 by Circuit Judge M. James Chaney, who also ordered that Williams remain free on a $25,000 bond.

Williams faced trial following his indictment in July on sexual battery and incest charges. The complaint against Williams was made May 6 by an adult victim to the VPD, where Williams was a patrolman in 2003 and 2004 and for about 10 months in 2007.

An investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation ensued after the detective arm of the state police was contacted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, which was brought into the case after it was determined the alleged incident happened outside city limits.

After an unsuccessful run for sheriff in Issaquena County, Williams was an investigator with the sheriff’s department, from January 2008 until June, his second stint in the office.

When indicted, officials did not say whether he quit or was fired. He had been placed on medical leave from the department in April after he was injured in a wreck.
