HERMANVILLE — Emma Griffith died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 59.
Mrs. Griffith was born in Claiborne County to Matthew Shorter and Hester Evans. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Smith, Corine Griffith and Bessie Amos.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Griffith and Billy Griffith, both of Magee, and Robert Griffith of Pinola; six daughters, Vickie Payne of Prentiss, Katrina Griffith of Hermanville, Edna Griffith of Pinola, Cynthia Davidson of D’Lo, Pamela Griffith of Collins and Renea Griffith of Magee; seven brothers, Albert Ray Evans and Issac Evans, both of Port Gibson, Temp Evans of New Orleans, Abraham Shorter of Blue Hill and Matthew Shorter Jr., Jerry Lee Shorter and Albert Shorter, all of Hermanville; 10 sisters, Ruby Walker, Mamie Smith and Flora Evans, all of Port Gibson, Ida Dampeer Banks, Carie Shorter and Sarah Lee Shorter Barnes, all of Hermanville, Nora Sorrell of New Orleans, Florine Shorter Chase of Utica, Catherine Griffith of Miami, Fla., and Aleane Shorter Dennis of New York, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pinola with the Rev. Moses Johnson officiating. Burial will be at New Hymn Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
