A Vicksburg woman remained in the surgical intensive care unit at University Medical Center in Jackson today following a wreck Saturday near her home on U.S. 61 South.

Beth Breedlove, 71, 7095 U.S. 61 South, sustained multiple fractures when the 2001 Ford Ranger Edge in which she was a passenger was hit from behind by another pickup around noon, said her husband, Robert Breedlove.

Beth Breedlove was in fair condition this morning, said UMC spokesman Peggy Wagner.

The Breedloves had been to lunch in Vicksburg and were headed back to their home when the wreck occurred along an uphill stretch of the highway just past Immanuel Baptist Church.

Both were wearing seat belts and the top of the cab had to be cut to get them out of the truck, Robert Breedlove said.

Deputies from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department responded immediately and then turned the investigation over to the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

MHSP spokesman John Kalahar could not provide information about the wreck this morning.

The Breedloves were taken to River Region Medical Center before their transfers to UMC.

Robert Breedlove said he suffered a concussion and was discharged from UMC late Monday afternoon.

The other vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet 2500 pickup was driven by Jody Kelly, age unavailable, 965 Louisiana 680, Winnsboro. He was not injured, but his passenger, 7-year-old Natalie Kelly of the same address, was treated and released, said spokesman Allen Karel.

Kelly said today that he was not injured and he had no other passengers.

Beth Breedlove’s injuries include a broken hip, right arm and left leg, a broken jaw and nose and a neck fracture, said her son-in-law, Tony Monk.

She underwent surgery Monday and faces additional surgeries and procedures, he said.

“She’s doing better than she looks,” Monk said, “but it’s going to be a marathon, not a sprint.”
