The price of productivity Study: Lucrative biofuel industry straining Delta waters

Fertilizing and growing corn for the environment-friendly biofuel industry is catching the eye of environmentalists looking at the negatives of more aquifer water extracted and more nitrogen deposited into runoff water in the Mississippi Delta and the Gulf of Mexico.

The findings, documented by the U.S. Geological Survey, are being supported by watershed watchers but scorned by farmers and agronomists.
