Eagles search for new coach

Porters Chapel will be looking for a new assistant football and junior high basketball coach.

A day after part-time assistant coach Derrick Collins was arrested and booked into the Warren County Jail on charges of robbing a Britton & Koontz Bank on U.S. 61 North and leading Warren County deputies on a chase, PCA headmaster Doug Branning said that Collins, 45, was no longer employed at the school.

Branning said the school will fill the position “from within” the private school on Porters Chapel Road.

Collins has been at the school at a year, where he ran the athletic department’s strength and conditioning program. He coached the junior high basketball team after standing in for coach E.J. Creel with the varsity when she missed the first few weeks of the season for personal reasons.

Collins was not a classroom teacher, and his position likely will be filled with a volunteer.

When reached on Wednesday, PCA football coach John Weaver, who brought Collins with him when he took the PCA job last year, declined all comment on the matter.
