JACKONSVILLE, Fla. — Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez has been the subject of rumors that his job is in jeopardy and Saturday’s beatdown, the worst bowl loss in Michigan history, didn’t do him any favors.

The loss dropped him to 1-11 in his three years at Michigan against ranked opponents.

With a 15-22 record in three years, Rodriguez is coming under increasing pressure.

When asked if the game would affect Michigan athletic director David Brandon’s decision on whether to retain him, Rodriguez punted.

“You’re asking the wrong person,” Rodriguez said.

On whether he thought he’d still have a job, Rodriguez gave the same answer. When asked if he thought he would return, Rodriguez answered, “I do.”

Michigan sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson refused to answer when asked if he’d leave if Rodriguez was fired. He also defended his coach.

“No response,” Robinson said. “Coach told us not to worry about it (job rumors), we kept our focus and we kept the main thing the main thing.”

Brandon said he plans to talk to about Rodriguez’s future after both are back on campus. Brandon said he probably won’t have more to say until late this week.

If he is fired, Michigan is expected to try to hire Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. The former Wolverines quarterback will coach the Cardinal against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl on Monday.
