Lady Vikes plunder Hornets

Like a balky transmission on a cold morning, Warren Central’s offense has struggled to get into gear early in games.

But on Friday against Region 4-6A foe Greenville-Weston, the Lady Vikes’ offense was firing on all cylinders, as WC earned a 54-38 victory.

The Lady Vikes (4-13, 2-2) put together their most complete effort of the season. They got a balanced scoring effort, as Elayne Robinson, Sh’qulla Neal and Shegreda Shorter scored 10 points apiece. WC controlled the backboards, as Robinson grabbed 11 rebounds and Shorter got six. Defensively, the Lady Vikes forced the Lady Hornets (7-10, 0-3) into a lot of contested jumpers.

“I talked to my seniors today about leaving a foundation for the younger group and how I saw a lot of cracks in there,” WC coach Jackie Glass said. “That’s the legacy they’re going to leave and it’s time for them to show the younger group how to win. I was pretty happy we controlled the boards and controlled the game.”

Glass decided to rest her starters with WC up 37-26 after three quarters. Her bench not only held serve, but put together an 8-0 run that nailed the coffin shut.

Brianna Wright led Greenville with 18 points and Bianca Wooten added 11, but the rest of the team combined for nine points.

Missed jumpshots hurt Warren Central, as visiting Greenville-Weston had its way thanks to 18 points from Armon Evans.

WC’s high-scoring combination of Jeremy Harper and Kourey Davis combined for 15 points. Eric Howard led WC (9-10, 0-4) with 10 points.
