Two local men were in the Warren County Jail this morning charged with grand larceny and possession of burglar’s tools, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Clifton Saulsberry, 21, 45 Watkins Road, and Joel Calvin, 20, 620 Watkins Road, were stopped by Detective Sam Winchester at U.S. 80 and Mississippi 27 Tuesday morning, Pace said.

The 1992 Lincoln in which they were riding matched the description of a car seen leaving a burglary at a private auto salvage yard in the 3500 block of Mount Alban Road that had been reported at 8:40 a.m., Pace said.

A witness who reported two men stealing rims from the salvage yard had provided deputies with a partial description of the car and tag, he said.

Found in the car were seven tires and rims that had been reported stolen, along with tools believed used in the burglary, Pace said.

The owner was doing a thorough check of the vehicles in the yard, but thought as many as 20 or more tires and rims were missing, said the sheriff.

Deputies are continuing to investigate to determine whether additional thefts can be traced to Saulsberry and Calvin, he said.

Authorities believe the rims are being sold to metal recycling centers or for scrap, Pace said.

Saulsberry and Calvin were being held without bond pending their initial hearing today.
