‘Little Big Man’ gray pickup needs to be silenced

Published 11:55 pm Saturday, February 26, 2011

Every single night for the last few weeks, families in the Glenwood Circle-Chambers Street neighborhood have been woken up between 3 and 4 a.m. by a gray pickup with “Little Big Man” written on its back window.

The reason: Like many trucks that tear through Vicksburg unmolested by the police, this vehicle is fitted with a special muffler designed to make it as noisy as possible. Why we’re blessed with the truck’s all-too-reliable presence is beyond me, and I don’t care to confront the model citizen behind the wheel in the middle of the night.

If you know who this is — or if this is you — please tell him to stop. I’m not sure why such mufflers are even legal, since their sole purpose is to disturb the peace. But deafening noise in the middle of the night is completely unacceptable and disrespectful toward our community.
