There’s still a long, long way to go this season, but Porters Chapel is already sending a message that it won’t be taking any prisoners in its quest for an MAIS Class A championship.
Jarad Tompkins had three hits, including a double, to lead a 14-hit assault as PCA hammered Rebul 15-1 on Monday night. It was the second time in as many games this season that the Eagles have scored 15 runs, and they also have 28 hits in the same span.
“We’ve got to feel confident when you have two games in which you score 30 runs and only give up one. That shows you’re playing well on both sides,” PCA coach Jerry Bourne said. “We’ve been lights out so far. Hopefully that continues.”
Matthew Warren, Kawayne Gaston, Talbot Buys and Sam Staggs had two hits apiece for PCA (2-0, 2-0 District 5-A). Staggs finished with four RBIs and Buys had two.
Montana McDaniel also drove in three runs, to go along with a pair of hits and a double. His two hits were one more than he gave up in four innings on the mound. McDaniel struck out seven to earn his first win of the season.
PCA will return to action tonight against Rebul for the first of three home games this week. The Eagles also host Central Hinds on Thursday and Riverfield on Friday in a rematch of last season’s Class A South State championship series.
