William Ford McGehee

William Ford “Billy” McGehee died Monday night, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Heritage House Retirement Center. He was 92.
Born in Monticello, Mr. McGehee had been a resident of Vicksburg for more than 50 years. He graduated from Mississippi College, where he was president of the student body and captain of the Choctaw football team.
In 1990 he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. He attended law school at Ole Miss and, afterward, spent two years as an FBI agent before entering private law practice in Vicksburg.
For 25 years thereafter, he was corporate counsel for the Rose Oil Company. He was married for 64 years to the former Brownie Burton of Canton who preceded him in death in 2007. They had two sons, Bob and Harvey.
Mr. McGehee was a longtime, active member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one sister, Helen Frye of Magnolia; and one son, Harvey McGehee of Clinton. He also has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Riles Funeral Home on Friday, March 4, at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Harris, Hayes Latham, Doug Fridge, Neal Randall, Jason Spires and Bufkin Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be German Jordan, Emmett Atwood, Joe Bottino, Jack Stamm, Gene Allen, Herb Jones, Dr. Briggs Hopson, Dr. Lee Giffin and Joe Gerache.
