John David Hoben Jr.

John David “J.D.” Hoben Jr. died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.
Born in Holly Ridge, La., he had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1927. He was the son of the late John David Hoben Sr. and Jewel Capshaw Hoben.
Mr. Hoben owned and operated Hoben’s Grocery for a number of years and retired as an equipment foreman with Anderson-Tully Lumber Company in 1985 with approximately 50 years of service. He was a member of the Paxton Masonic Lodge and Calvary Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene W. Hoben of Vicksburg; a daughter, Betty Roberts Hearn of Dentville, Miss.; one son, Michael Hoben of Vicksburg; three stepsons: Roger Dixon (Ann), Logan Dixon and Dane Dixon, all of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Courtney Roberts Hall, Carl Roberts Jr., Nathan Hoben, Jason Hoben, Madison Dixon and Mason Dixon; seven great-grandchildren, Nick Roberts, Trace Roberts, Anna Roberts, Taylor Roberts, Tyler Hall, Baleigh Hall and Henley Hoben; and one great-great-granddaughter, Laney Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ferguson Hoben; a son, John Timothy Hoben; a grandson, Kevin Roberts; and two sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Porters Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Moulder officiating. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Carl Roberts Jr., Nathan Hoben, Jason Hoben, Tyler Hall, Taylor Roberts and Nick Roberts.
