Additional charges were filed Wednesday against a Warren County man arrested Monday for sexual battery of a child younger than 14, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
William Elliott, 56, 141 Cumberland Drive, was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon, Pace said, in addition to being accused of sexually assaulting two children younger than 14.
At a bond hearing Wednesday morning, Justice Court Judge Edwin Woods Jr. increased Elliott’s bond from $50,000 to $75,000, said the sheriff.
Elliott was arrested at his home at 3 p.m. Monday after a family member filed a report of the sexual abuse that morning. The children had been in the presence of Elliott over the weekend, Pace said.
While at Elliott’s home, deputies recovered a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun. A records check by detectives revealed that Elliott had been convicted in 1997 in Lauderdale County of selling marijuana, resulting in the new charge, said Pace.
Elliott remained in the Warren County Jail this morning.
