A Port Gibson man in custody for two weeks was charged Monday with murder in the death of a homeless woman whose partially clothed body was found behind a Port Gibson church.
Dexter Watson, 40, 907 Vine St., is accused of killing of Patricia Dotson, 35, on March 6, a Sunday, and leaving her body behind First Baptist Church, said John Kalahar of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
Dotson died of stab wounds to the face and trauma to the head, Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallett said.
Watson was picked up on the day after the slaying after investigators received information he had been seen with Dotson on the night before her body was found. The charges against him were filed after tests by the Mississippi State Crime Lab linked blood found on his clothing to Dotson.
Kalahar said the case will be turned over to the Claiborne County district attorney. The MBI has handled the investigation because Watson’s brother, Terrance Watson, is a Port Gibson police officer.
The MBI has not released information on whether Dotson was sexually assaulted.
