William Floyd Strickland Jr.

William Floyd “Strick” Strickland Jr. died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Strickland was the son of the late William Floyd Strickland Sr. and Edora Elizabeth Bowers Strickland Bailey. He was a 1945 graduate of Culkin Academy and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He retired from Sears as a department manager in 1985 with 35 years of service. He served as a scorekeeper with Vicksburg Little League baseball for a number of years and was a member of the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Andrew Strickland.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lurline Andrews Strickland; three daughters, Diane Strickland Ziegler of Downsville, La., Bobbie Beyers Edwards of Vicksburg and Anne Beyers Sparks of Sanford, Fla.; one son, Stephen Strickland of Brandon; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with Eric Welch of Vicksburg Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Cary Ziegler Jr., Robert Edwards, Michael Edwards, Joshua Sparks, Patrick Smith, Wade Hammack, Calvin Seyfarth and Jason Tillman.

Honorary pallbearers will be William S. Fuller, Herbert Wilks and Pat Thomas.
