Vicksburg YMCA teeball registration

Registration is open for the Vicksburg YMCA’s teeball program. The league is open to children ages 4-6 and games will be held at the Purks YMCA.

Hinds basketball tryouts in Utica

Tryouts for the Hinds Community College women’s basketball team will be held March 30 at 5 p.m. in the J.D. Boyd Gym on the Utica campus.

Clear Creek Men’s Golf Association

The Clear Creek Senior Men’s Golf Association played a three-man scramble tournament at the Refuge Golf Course on March 24. The winners were Butch Henley, Jerry Harmon and Al Ford.

The team of Tom Rosser, Bob Walsh, and Leon Jacobs finished second, Bob Grau, Jim Hines and Eddie Roberson were third, and the threesome of Rodney McHann, Max Reed and Jack Farren came in fourth.

Closest to the hole on No. 5 was Louis Logue and on 16, Eddie Roberson.

The next scheduled tournament at Clear Creek is on April 7, with a 9 a.m. tee time.

Alcorn football scrimmage at VHS

Alcorn State will hold a spring football scrimmage at Vicksburg High’s Memorial Stadium on April 9, beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is $5, and children under 3 are admitted free.

On April 16, The SWAC Shootout — a basketball game featuring alumni teams from Alcorn, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Tougaloo — will be held at the VHS gym. There will also be a Greek step show with the game. The events start at noon, and admission is $5 with children under 3 admitted free. For more information, call Doug Fitzgerald at 601-218-9327.

Adult softball registration

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s Recreation Department’s adult softball league will continue until April 11. There are men’s and women’s leagues, which includes all churches and competitive teams.

Cost is $175 per team, plus $10 for each player from Warren County and $20 for each player from Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties. A mandatory coaches’ meeting will be held on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec offices on 100 Army-Navy Drive.
