Cathedral finished off one victory against St. Aloysius, then turned around and survived for another Thursday.

Collin Hammons escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, then Cathedral added three runs in the sixth to beat St. Al 9-3 in the completion of a game started Tuesday and suspended by rain.

In game two — the regularly scheduled game between the Catholic school rivals — St. Al chopped a five-run deficit to one before faltering late and losing 10-7.

St. Al (2-11, 2-2 Division 7-1A) scored two runs on errors in the third inning and two more in the fourth to get as close as 7-6. Cathedral committed five errors in the game.

Cathedral (10-4, 3-1) scored three times in the fifth inning, two of them when Blake Martin scored on a sacrifice fly and Barrett Young hustled home as the Flashes tried to throw a runner out at second on the same play.

The sweep put Cathedral in first place in the division and gave it a crucial tiebreaker against St. Al, which is in second place.

The Flashes host Tallulah Academy Saturday at Bazinsky Field at 1 p.m. and Ridgeland at 7, then play a pair of division games against Bogue Chitto next week.

Port Gibson 11, Wingfield 10

Shaquille Williams’ two-run double capped a furious six-run rally in the top of the seventh inning as Port Gibson stormed back to beat Wingfield.

Wingfield scored five runs in the sixth to take a 10-5 lead, but the Blue Waves (7-7) answered in their last at-bat.

Williams and Dominic Savage each had a double and a triple, while Devontae Tarleton tripled and drove in two runs. Silento Sayles hit a double and also pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn a save.
