Eula Pauline Higbee

MADISON — Eula Pauline Higbee, 97, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

She was born in Linton, Ky., and spent her early years in and around Cadiz, Ky. She moved with her husband and two children to Hermanville, Miss., in 1946 and resided there for the next 50 years until moving Madison, Miss.

While in Hermanville she was an active member of the Hermanville United Methodist Church and involved in many community activities. She managed Barland’s Store in Hermanville and was bookkeeper at Port Gibson Lumber Co. until retirement. The remainder of her life, she resided in Madison.

Eula was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Andrew Higbee.

Survivors include two sons, William C. (Elizabeth) Higbee and John W. (Mary Alice) Higbee, both of Madison; a sister, Nell Coyle of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; three brothers, Kenneth Simmons of Hopkinsville, Ky., Norris Simmons of Hamilton, Ohio, and Adrian Simmons of Middleton, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be noon Monday at the Chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with Rev. Curtis Moffat officiating, assisted by Rev. David Carroll. Interment will follow in the Hermanville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Higbee, Chase Higbee, Brian Higbee, Logan Mason, Tim Higbee, Mike Higbee and Andrew Higbee.

Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson is in charge of arrangements.
