Edward Cecil Lanier, 82, of Vicksburg died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Justin Rhoades officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Lanier graduated from Carr Central High School. He was a member of the track team, played basketball and played football. He was affectionately known as “Golden Toes Lanier.” He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Mr. Lanier retired from U.S. Rubber Company after 30 years as personnel and office manager. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and a member of the VFW Post No. 22 and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Penn Lanier; his mother, Mary Katherine Harlen; two brothers, John M. Lanier and Clifford Penn Lanier Jr.; and two sisters, Katherine Lanier Heard and Gloria Lanier Ditto.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Hambrick Lanier of Vicksburg; two daughters, Connie Lanier French (Gary) and Kelly Lanier Flanagan (Preston), all of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Tristan French, Megan French and Jared Lanier; and a great-grandchild, Ryan Lynann French.
Pallbearers will be Preston Flanagan, Gary French, Jared Lanier, Tristan French, Bill Libbey and Tommy Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Rusty Barnes, Providence Hospice and staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Home.
Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice or to Parkinson’s research.
