Frederick Loring Smith

Frederick Loring Smith died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.
Born in Winona, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Milo and Maude Beem Smith. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and served in the Navy in the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United States Service Medal.
He retired from the Corps of Engineers New Orleans District in 1988 after 29 years of service as a supervisory geologist. He was a past president of the Vicksburg Lions Club and was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Billie Jean Tims Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Mia Smith Cowart of Vicksburg and Lisa Sulvetta of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren, Lyndsey Loring Cowart, Zachary Allen Cowart and Robert Dean Haver Jr.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Cary Stockett and the Rev. Walter Frazier officiating. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9:30 Wednesday until the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Heritage House Retirement Center, Patty Loch, Elaine Moore, Sally Riddle, Joy Dupuy, Linda Sumners, Dot Bridgers, Richard and Phylis Cowart and members of Friendship Sunday school class of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
