A nation begins the marking of the Civil War’s sesquicentennial

Shadows fall across the ruins of a textile mill at Sweetwater Creek outside Atlanta, now part of a Georgia state park. The mill, which supplied the Confederate army, was captured and burned in 1864 by Union Gen. William T. Sherman’s troops.
