Antonia Castillo Mattei

FLEMINGTON, N.J. — Antonia Castillo Mattei died Friday, April 15, 2011, in Flemington, N.J. She was 88.

Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, she attended nursing school at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

She served at St. Luke’s, at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, Tenn., at Mercy Hospital in Vicksburg and at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She also served as a private nurse and as co-administrator of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Hispanic Seniors Center in Trenton, N.J..

She was preceded in death by a brother, Pedro Castillo of Paradise, Calif.; and a sister, Carmen Castillo Rubio of Ponce.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, the Rev. Raul H. Mattei of Trenton; a sister, Miriam Castillo Medina of Ponce; six children, Raul Mattei of Treadwell, N.Y., Peter Mattei of El Cajon, Calif., Carmen Greenlee of Brunswick, Maine, Dr. C. Antonia Mattei of Flemington and Mike Mattei and Al Mattei, both of Trenton; five grandchildren; and cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial Eucharist services will be at 10 a.m. June 22, 2011, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Alexandria Township, N.J. Private burial will be under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.

Memorials may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington.
