Lady Flashes finish 3rd at state

St. Aloysius had a team total of 367 strokes to finish third in the MHSAA Class 1 girls state golf tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Flashes edged Sacred Heart by four shots, and trailed winner St. Patrick by 38. St. Patrick had a 328 total, while St. Andrew’s was second with 341.

St. Al’s Laura Phillips tied for fourth with St. Patrick’s Mary Maddox in the individual standings, with a two-day total of 166. Miriam Parker of St. Andrew’s took medalist honors with a 145, and Ingomar’s Molly Hale was second with 149.

In the Class 2 tournament for large schools, Madison Central — coached by Vicksburg resident Kathy Hester — shot a 316 to edge Hernando by two shots for the team title. Hancock was third, with a 333 total, while Warren Central and Tupelo tied for fourth with 336.

Hancock’s Emily Ross earned medalist honors by shooting 71 and 69 for a two-day total of 140. Peyton Rutherford and Carra Channell were Warren Central’s top finishers, both with 168.
