Speakers, parade, wreath-laying set for Memorial Day

Retired Brig. Gen. Robert Crear, a Vicksburg native and former commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi Valley Division, will be the featured speaker during Memorial Day activities in Vicksburg.

The May 30 festivities, presented by the Vicksburg Warren County Memorial Day Committee and American Legion Post 213, will include a parade, memorial service and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Vicksburg National Cemetery, said program chairman Willie Glasper Sr.

Crear will speak at 11 a.m. at Vicksburg Auditorium. Other speakers will include the Rev. Kevin Winters, associate minister of Coolspring M.B. Church, Mayor Paul Winfield, Warren County Board of Supervisors President William George and American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars post commanders.
