Southern Miss’ Koelling wins Ferriss Trophy

Southern Miss outfielder Tyler Koelling won the 2011 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy at a ceremony at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Koelling is the first Golden Eagle to win the award, first presented in 2003.

Southern Miss is scheduled to play Tulane on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Trustmark Park in Pearl in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament.

The other finalists were USM’s B.A. Vollmuth and Mississippi State infielder Jarrod Parks.

Former Warren Central and Ole Miss standout Brian Pettway won the honor in 2005.
