Allen Dorman Lum

Allen Dorman “A.D.” Lum died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 89.

Born in Warren County on Dec. 31, 1921, he was the son of the late Allen Erwin Lum and Ethel O’Connor Lum. Mr. Lum was a graduate of Culkin High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army with Battery D, 98th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion.

Mr. Lum was a lifelong cattleman and was co-owner of the Lum Commission Stock Yards. He will be remembered as an auctioneer for sale barns throughout the South until his retirement. He had been a resident of the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson since 2008.

Mr. Lum was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Methodist faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Alva Lum Woods (Ricky) and Melissa Lum Lyons (Sherwood), all of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Tiffany Lambert (Darin), Quent Woods, Winston Lyons, Cassidy Lyons Pickens (Chad) and Allen Lum Lyons (Lee Anna); and five great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Lyons, Erin Lambert, Allen Slade Lyons, Presley Pickens and Adelyn Lyons.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wives, Alva Murrah “Dixie” Lum and Annie Lee Lum; a son, Allen Dorman Lum Jr.; and a brother, James Edwin Lum.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert C. Andrews, pastor of the Cross Point Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Winston Lyons, Allen Lyons, Quent Woods, Chad Pickens, Darren Lambert, Howard Nelson and Slade Lyons.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and special friends of the Mississippi State Veterans Home; the staff of the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Medical Center, 4th Floor, North Wing C; R.D. O’Connor; Earl Lum; Pete Stubbs; Dr. George E. Abraham II; Bill and Judy Duckworth; and Raymond Baker.
