Miss Ivy and Mr. Mays to wed at Cedar Grove

George and Albertha Ivy of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Shenika Dionne of Gainesville, Fla., to Carey Jerome Mays. Mr. Mays is the son of Arthur and Shirley Mays of Jackson.

Miss Ivy is the granddaughter of the late George and Margaret Ivy and the late Albert Brown and Blanche Clark of Vicksburg.

Mr. Mays is the grandson of the late Alonzo Mays and Cleo Webster and the late Carey Green and Genevieve Thomas of Monticello.

The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the band, Key Club, Junior Medical Society, History Club, Environmental Club and United Way Teen Help.

She attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she served as a Dubard School for Language Disorders volunteer and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Student Speech and Hearing Association, NAACP and Student Government Association.

Miss Ivy is admissions coordinator at the University of Florida.

The prospective groom is a 2001 graduate of Raymond High School, where he was a member of the varsity football and track teams, Spanish Club and Science Club.

He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., SPEED, NAACP, University Activities Council and National Society of Black Engineers.

Mr. Mays is program coordinator for Sorority and Fraternity Affairs at the University of Florida.

The wedding will be June 25, 2011, at Cedar Grove Mansion. A reception will follow at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
