The Vicksburg Swim Association went out a winner at its Stamm Family Invitational on Sunday, even if it didn’t win the whole thing.

The boys 15-and-over 400-meter medley relay team of Chris Luke, Hunter Anderson, Matt Shoenberger and Wally Wibowo finished first in the final event of the three-day meet at City Pool. It was the only win of the day for the VSA squad, which finished third in the team standings behind the Mississippi Makos and Sunkist Swim Team.

The Makos had 1,425 points to easily outdistance Sunkist’s 1,075.5 total. Vicksburg finished with 866.5 points to finish comfortably in third. The fourth-place team, Lagold, only totaled 220 points.

The core of the winning medley relay team had a big hand in the VSA’s success. Wibowo, Shoenberger and Anderson placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in the boys’ 200-meter freestyle. Morgan Stone was sixth, and the VSA had six of the top nine swimmers in that event.

In the boys’ 50-meter freestyle, Wibowo was second again with a time of 27.18 seconds. Shoenberger finished third, Stone was fourth and Anderson fifth.

Wibowo also finished second in the 100-meter backstroke and Anderson was second in the 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter butterfly. Chip Fields was second in the 13-14-year-olds boys 200-meter breatstroke.
