M-Braves baked by Biscuits

The Mississippi Braves’ winning streak was short-lived.
Montgomery exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning and went on to win 15-2, snapping the M-Braves’ brief two-game winning streak.
Mississippi (23-35) has not won more than two games in a row this season. Monday’s loss also marked the seventh time in the last 14 games that it has given up 11 or more runs.
This one got out of hand in a hurry.
Montgomery jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Stephen Vogt delivered an RBI single and then scored on a double by Daniel Mayora. The Biscuits added another run in the third and three more in the fourth to stretch the lead to 6-1. Then the Biscuits really blew it open with the big rally in the fifth inning. Montgomery sent 13 men to the plate and collected seven hits — all singles.
The M-Braves also committed two errors that led directly to three runs. Reliever Luis Avilan faced eight batters, allowed four hits and a walk, and was charged with six runs. Eddie Morlan took over midway through the inning and gave up three more runs, only one of them earned.
M-Braves starter Brett Oberholtzer (3-6) took the loss after giving up six earned runs on eight hits in the first four innings. The left-hander is 0-3 with a 7.96 ERA in his last four starts.
Tim Beckham went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for Montgomery, and John Shelby had four hits. Every Biscuits starter had at least one hit.
Tyler Pastronicky had an RBI double in the third inning for the M-Braves, and Donell Linares drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
The teams continue their series tonight at 7:05 in Montgomery.
