Mr. Noah Johnson died Friday, June 3, 2011, at his home. He was 67.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.

He was a 1962 honor graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and attended Utica Junior College where he graduated in 1966 and served as president of the Student Council. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts from Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss.

Noah attended Northwestern University and Mississippi State University, where he received a master’s degree in vocational education. He also attended Alcorn State University where he received 30 hours-plus in administration.

He taught at Gulfport High School for two years and also in the Vicksburg Warren School District for 32 years, having served as an industrial arts teacher and principal.

Mr. Johnson was a master carpenter and an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory Johnson Sr. and Mary Florence Johnson; one brother, Ivory Johnson Jr.; and two sisters, Rosie Mary Walker and Ethel Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nancy Jones Johnson; one son, Larry C. Johnson (Kathy) of Diamondhead, Miss.; two daughters, Jessica Muhammad (Korda) of Birmingham, Ala., and Ruby Smith of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Marcus and Taylor Johnson of Diamondhead, Khalil, Solomon, Aliyah and Safiyah Muhammad, all of Birmingham; two sisters, Bessie (Rev. Elzie) O’Neal and Margaret Marshall, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Julius Johnson (Rosie) of Vicksburg; one goddaughter, Lisa Regina Kemp of Vicksburg; three special sisters-in-law, Lois Williams (Roy) of Chicago, Willie Ella Ladner (Gerald) of Naperville, Ill., and Mary Lawrence (Ron) of Rochester, N.Y.; one special brother-in-law, Benjamin Jones Jr. (Doris) of Austin, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the Daniels and Williams families.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Vicksburg City Auditorium with the Rev. Joseph Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon until 6 p.m. with the family being present from 5 until 6 at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at City Auditorium.
