Tommie Rawlings has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Warren County Supervisor from District 2.

Rawlings, a construction worker by trade and a member of the Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals, is opposed in the Aug. 2 primary by incumbent supervisor William Banks. The winner faces Republican Trey Smith and De Reul, an independent.

A lifelong Vicksburg resident, Rawlings, a Warren Central High School graduate and parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was appointed by the city to the zoning board in September 2008.

Rawlings, 48, sought the office in 2007 and ran for alderman in 2005. Rawlings touts his votes on the zoning board against nightclubs and scrap metal yards in neighborhoods and favors nixing the county’s inventory tax.

The district covers north Vicksburg and northwest Warren County.
