Edward Earl Chisolm

Edward Earl “Ed” Chisolm died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 65.

Born in Coxburg, Miss., he attended Coxburg School and Lexington High School. He was an All-Conference center for the Hornet football team. He was a member of the Lexington High School Class of 1964 and was chosen most intellectual.

He received his associate’s degree from Holmes Junior College in Goodman in 1966 and his bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Mississippi State University in 1969. He received his master’s degree in civil engineering from MSU in 1973.

Ed moved to Vicksburg in 1969 and began working at Waterways Experiment Station. In 1974, he moved to the Vicksburg District to work in the Technical Investigation Section of the Geotech Branch. He transferred to the Inspection and Evaluation Section in 1989 and became section chief in 1994. In 2000, Ed moved back to the Geotechnical Branch as a dam safety specialist and dam safety program manager. In 2002, Ed was selected as a member of the Corps of Engineers National Dam Safety Program Management Team.

Ed retired from the Vicksburg District in 2006. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal. After his retirement, Ed worked as a consultant for Burns Cooley Dennis Inc. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and ASDSO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Chisolm and Louise Killebrew Chisolm of Coxburg.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janet Ervin Chisolm of Vicksburg; two sons, Nathan Earl Chisolm (Anna) of Tupelo and Russell Wayne Chisolm of Vicksburg; one daughter, Mary Kathryn “Katy” Chisolm Goodin (Chris) of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Joshua Alexander Goodin and Laura Kathryn Goodin of Vicksburg and Zoe Ann Chisolm of Tupelo; one brother, George Phillip Chisolm (Donna) of Coxburg; two sisters, Patricia McCreary (Bob) of Wesson and Margaret Baggett (Paul) of Brandon.

Ed was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be at the Coxburg Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Richard Chisolm, Allen Spencer, Richard Spencer, Ken McCreary, Sam McCreary, Rob McCreary, Mike Bridges and Brian Whittington.
