PICAYUNE — Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel for Thomas Frank Wagner, age 56, of Picayune. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Monday, June 13, 2011.

Interment consists of burial of ashes at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, spreading of remaining ashes over the Bogue Chitto River east of Summit where he spent many enjoyable years as a youth, and a stone marker in the Wagner family section of Greenlawn Cemetery in Summit.

Deacon Doug McNair will officiate at the service.

As a native of Summit, he graduated from both McComb High School and the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s in criminal justice and a master’s in urban and regional development with an emphasis in emergency planning. He met his wife at Ole Miss and proposed to her in The Grove, and they were married for 32 years. He loved Ole Miss football and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, kayak, hike in the mountains, and was a purple martin enthusiast. He was also an active member and supporter of the Friends of Boley.

Tom was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

He grew up as a Boy Scout in his father’s and grandfather’s Boy Scout Troop 143 in Summit and returned as an assistant scoutmaster to his son Taylor’s Troop 2 in Picayune. He was extensively involved as a Boy Scout leader with Picayune Troop 2 since 1998. He had received many scout awards, including the Pine Burr Award, which was awarded by the Pine Burr Area Council.

His professional career consisted primarily of safety and emergency response responsibilities with Shell Oil Company for the past 30 years. Among his community endeavors were Emergency Medical Technician and Chief of the Carriere Volunteer Fire Department since 1997. As a Certified Mississippi Emergency Manager, he served as Pearl River County’s EOC Deputy Incident Commander during Hurricane Katrina and leaves now as EOC Operations Chief. He also was a former instructor for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Conservation Hunter Safety Course.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Eugene H. “Buddy” Wagner of Summit.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lanice Logue Wagner of Picayune; son, Scott Wagner of Carriere; daughter, Casey Wagner (Chas) Pierce of Hattiesburg; son, Taylor Wagner of USM Hattiesburg; grandchild, Mackenzie Pierce and stepgrandchild, Mason Pierce, both of Hattiesburg; and mother, Gladys Wagner who was born in McComb and who now resides at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison. Other survivors are his brother, Steve (Janet) Wagner of Vicksburg; sister, Celia (Ron) Coffey of Madison; father- and mother-in-law, Otto and Bernice Logue of Vicksburg; brother- and sister-in-law, David and Alice Logue of Pleasant View, Tenn.; brother- and sister-in-law, Kevin and Michelle Logue of Vicksburg; aunt, Edythe Holmes of Baton Rouge; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be tonight, June 15, 2011, from 6 until 9 at McDonald Funeral Home.
