A burn ban was issued Friday for the Vicksburg area, fire officials said.

The Vicksburg Fire Department issued the ban inside the city limits due to dry conditions, fire investigator Leslie J. Sanders said. The Mississippi Forestry Commission has not issued a ban for Warren County.

The ban is effective until further notice, Sanders said. Burning debris within the city limits is prohibited unless a burn permit is issued. Under the ban, burn permits will not be issued, Sanders said.

The Vicksburg area has not seen any rain since June 7, when a trace, which is less than .01 inch, was detected, National Weather Service Jackson meteorologist Jim Fairly said Friday.

Fairly said the area could see rain late Wednesday.
