Embrace hard work

Father’s Day is upon us. Children aren’t very interested in “gifting” Father. They are more interested in what Father can do. So Dad usually winds up with the clerk’s “tie” suggestion and Mama giving him something nice.
My dad was fascinating. He could wiggle his ears, stand on his head, walk on his hands, dance the Hornpipe, fix anything broken, repair the plumbing, rewire the lamps, and build cabinets and bookcases, all in the 60-hour work week period of that time. Sunday was a free day but with a church across the street Dad was always respectful. He sawed during the sermon and hammered during the hymns.
I think we lost some of our character with the 40-hour work week and our concentration on leisure. The happiest people these days seem to be there with “too much to do” and the most miserable are those with none or not enough.
Goes back to Eden when God told us we had to earn our bread by the “sweat of our brow.” Good advice for all of us living on Earth. After we get to heaven we can “rest” by inspiring others to do it.
