Vicksburg residents will get a second look at a proposed branding and marketing plan for downtown Vicksburg when Main Street holds a July 5 public hearing on the plan.
Vicksburg Main Street Program director Kim Hopkins told the Main Street Board of Directors Thursday that the 9 a.m. hearing will be in the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting room in the City Hall Annex.
She said members of Arnett Muldrow & Associates will present an updated version of the plan, which uses the theme, “Vicksburg. Simply. Uniquely. Southern.” The company first presented its proposal at a May 10 public hearing.
In other action, the board:
• Learned that $934 has been raised for Vicksburg Main Street from operating the concession stand at Halls Ferry Park. The board operates the concession stand during baseball and softball games as a fundraiser for Main Street. Hopkins said revenue is expected to increase with baseball tournaments in July and August.
• Learned the Farmers’ Market has averaged about 500 people per week since opening on May 21. The market has been named a state-approved market by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture, clearing the way for possible state funds for the market.
• Learned that participation and attendance was up for the Memorial Day Parade on May 30.
• Learned people can register to ride for Bricks and Spokes at getmeregister.com. Entry fee is $30.
• Approved the appointments of Alice Hebler, Kristen Meehan, Matt Farrell, Ronnie Bounds and Walter Osborne to Main Street’s finance and budget committee.
• Approved a resolution seeking renewal of the special 5.05-mill tax on commercial property in the designated Main Street area. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold an Aug. 15 public hearing on the renewal. The millage raises about $42,000 per year for the Main Street program, Hopkins said.
• Learned that Hopkins has been named to the Mississippi/Louisiana Rural Tourism Board.
• Learned that the Destination Downtown Conference is in Tupelo in September.
• Accepted the resignation of assistant director Samantha Blount, who is leaving for another job.
