M-Braves’ game halted by Pearl power outage

Before the Mississippi Braves could turn out the lights on Mobile, someone else did it to both teams.

Their game at Trustmark Park was suspended with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday night because of a power failure. The M-Braves were leading 4-1 when the outage struck the stadium and surrounding area.

The game will resume tonight at 6:20, and will be followed immediately afterward by the teams’ regularly scheduled contest. The partial doubleheader will conclude their five-game series and, if the M-Braves can hang on, a strong start to the second half of the season for the home team.

The M-Braves, who finished last in the Southern League’s South Division in the first half, won two of the first three games in the series with Mobile. Winning the suspended game would give Mississippi its first series victory since taking three of five games from Jackson on May 19-23.

On Sunday, the M-Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie. Ernesto Mejia led off with a double and scored the go-ahead run on Dan Nelson’s RBI single. Two more RBI singles by Cory Harrilchak and Donell Linares added to the lead.
