John Austin Dozier

EDWARDS — Services for John Austin Dozier will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at United M.B. Church in Edwards with the Rev. Elzie O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Edwards. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Dozier died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at his home in Edwards. He was 58.
An Edwards native, he attended Edwards Junior High School and Hinds County Agricultural High School. He attended Utica Junior College and graduated from Jackson State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and journalism in 1974. He was listed in the 1976 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America.
He worked as a cameraman for Capital Broadcasting Station-WJTV Channel 12 in Jackson before serving as a speech instructor and residential counselor at the Mississippi School for the Blind in Jackson and an English instructor at Hinds A.H.S. He later worked for Delphi Packard Electric, General Motors Corp., in Clinton, retiring after 30 years of service.
Mr. Dozier had served as Sunday school secretary and choir president at Bethlehem M.B. Church in Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Dozier Jr. and Cedella Kelker Dozier.
Survivors include one son, Jeremy Cordell Dozier of Byram; a brother, Henry Thomas Dozier of Edwards; a sister, Patricia Ann Dozier Green Washington of Richardson, Texas; and nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.
