David E. Thomas Jr.

David E. Thomas Jr. died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 62 years old.
Mr. Thomas was a native of Vicksburg. He was a 1965 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. He attended Tougaloo College, where he pursued a degree in physical education. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Vicksburg. Mr. Thomas worked for International Paper Co. for 17 years. He also worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mat-sinking unit for several years. At the time of his death, he was employed with DSI Security Company. He served in the Vietnam War in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Thomas Sr.; a sister, Ca’Lannye Thomas; and a brother, John H. Thomas.
He is survived by his mother, Caldonia M. Thomas; one daughter, Angela Thomas Stamps (Issac); two grandchildren, Shae and Cameron Stamps, all of Vicksburg; one sister, Kara Thomas Johnson (Brenneth) of Chicago; two nieces, Tammy Thomas Jackson (David) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Breneé Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three nephews, Julian Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, and Jonathan and Justin Thomas, both of Phoenix; two great-nephews, Nicholas and Zachary Jackson of Scottsdale; one great-niece, Morgan Jackson of Scottsdale; one sister-in-law, Diane Thomas of Phoenix; and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Meeks, Savage, Hughes, Vincent and Smith families.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 until 5 p.m. with the family being present from 3 until 5 at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
