It hasn’t been a great season for the Mississippi Braves, but things always seem to brighten up when the Jackson Generals come around.
Tyler Pastornicky, Mycal Jones and Willie Cabrera had three hits apiece, and Cabrera also drove in three runs as the M-Braves pummeled Jackson 10-1 on Monday night.
It was the second win in a row for the M-Braves. Although they’re 20 games under .500 for the season, they improved to 9-7 against Jackson. It’s the only team in the Southern League that the M-Braves have a winning record against this year. The Braves have also won their last three meetings with the Generals.
Monday’s game was close until the middle innings, when the M-Braves scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.
Ernesto Mejia drove in a pair of runs with a double in the fifth inning, then scored on a single by Cabrera. In the sixth inning, Mejia drove in another run with a ground out. The M-Braves also scored a run on a throwing error.
Mejia doubled again in the eighth inning to start a four-run rally that made it 10-0. The Generals avoided the shutout with a run in the ninth.
Mejia finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Jones also doubled twice and scored two runs.
Kenshin Kawakami started and allowed two hits in five shutout innings for the M-Braves. Luis Avilan pitched the last four innings to earn his first save of the season.
