DETROIT — Mattie “Cookie” Cason, formerly of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. She was 69.

Mrs. Cason was a former employee of the Franklin Dress Shop in Vicksburg and worked for GMAC, where she retired.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Cason; her mother, Matteal Harris; her father, Miles McTier; and a brother, Charles Williams Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Cason of Edwards; a sister, Lula Williams-Gooden of Detroit; a brother, Freddie McTier of New Orleans; two grandchildren; and cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Williams, Cox, Harris, Bell, Cason and Kennedy families of Vicksburg.

James H. Cole Funeral Home, 16100 Shaefer Highway in Detroit, has charge of arrangements.
