Absentee and affidavit ballots cast in Tuesday’s primary election totaled 352 between the Democratic and Republican parties, officials with each local executive committee said Thursday.
Voters cast 151 absentee and 31 affidavit ballots in the Democratic primary. Of those who chose Republican ballots, 126 absentees and 44 affidavits were processed. Of those totals, 10 were rejected by the Democrats and nine by the Republicans.
Addresses couldn’t be verified for the Democratic ballots tossed aside, said local party chairman John Shorter. All nine thrown out by Republican officials were affidavits, and the number of rejected absentees was small but undetermined, local GOP chair Eric Biedenharn said.
The totals mean 9,211 ballots were cast in Tuesday’s primary, or about 30 percent of the number on the county’s voter roll.
