Stiffer test awaits PCA when Deer Creek visits

Porters Chapel coach Wade Patrick, obviously, wishes every game was as easy as last week’s 56-0 romp over Union Christian.

Being a little more practical, however, he wouldn’t mind seeing the Eagles face some stiffer competition.

“The guys have to realize that was an aberration,” Patrick said. “Not every game is going to be 56-0. We have to keep doing our work every day. We try to instill that we’re not 56 points better than everybody. We’re not going to have that every week.”

Certainly not this week, Patrick said.

The Eagles host Deer Creek, which is coming off a 34-6 win over Humphreys Academy in its opener. Patrick was hoping for not only another strong effort from his team but, strangely, one from Deer Creek as well.

“I want to see how they respond when a team moves the ball on them. Are they going to drag their heads or pick them up,” Patrick said. “I just want to see competition. Competing with somebody wanting to be the best. You try to win every time, whether it’s a game, practice or lifting weights with the guy next to you.”

PCA’s easy win over Union Christian was good for morale, but not for evaluation. The Eagles only ran 14 offensive plays and scored seven touchdowns in a game severely shortened by a running clock.
