Nine people guilty in Warren County Circuit Court

In Warren County Circuit Court for the week ending Friday:

• Billy Broadwater, 54, 7373 U.S. 80, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, third offense, and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick to three years in prison followed by one year of probation, a $2,000 fine and $322.50 in court costs. Broadwater was arrested March 30.

• Johnathan Allen Erwin, 18, 2645 Oak Ridge Road, Lot 5, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced by Patrick to the Ninth Circuit Court Drug Court Program for a period not to exceed five years, a $1,000 fine and $1,297.50 in costs. Erwin was arrested Aug. 17, 2010.

• Aaron Tyrone Freeman, 35, 450 Smith Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony non-support of a child and was sentenced by Circuit Judge M. James Chaney to five years of probation, $17,000 in restitution (arrearage) and $322.50 in costs. The case was prosecuted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s office and Freeman was indicted in May by the grand jury.

• Kory Kevin Grayer, 20, 1421 High St., pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny and was sentenced by Chaney to 78 days in jail followed by five years of probation, a $1,000 fine, $5,220 in restitution and $322.50 in costs. Grayer was arrested June 16, 2010.

• Tommy Holt, 18, 1528 Sky Farm Ave., pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling and was sentenced to five years of probation, a $2,000 fine, $1,200 in restitution and $322.50 in costs. Holt was arrested Aug. 22, 2010.

• Benjamin Johnson, 22, 127 Red Hawk Road, pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny and was sentenced by Chaney to complete the Mississippi Department of Corrections Regimented Inmate Discipline Program followed by five years of probation, a $1,000 fine, $4,500 in restitution and $322.50 in costs. Johnson was arrested Dec. 9.

• David Ladale Sims, 20, 15 Carroll Place, No. 2502, was found guilty of violating probation and was sentenced by Patrick to the Drug Court program for a period not to exceed five years, and $1,607.50 in past due fines and costs. Sims was arrested Oct. 30, 2009 for possession of a stolen firearm.

• Lester R. Smith, 55, 1204 Howard St., pleaded guilty to escape from confinement and was sentenced by Chaney to 364 days in jail followed by two years of probation, a $500 fine and $322.50 in costs. A charge of sexual battery against Smith will not be prosecuted because of the unavailability of a necessary witness and statements by the alleged victim that “nothing inappropriate had occurred,” according to court documents. Smith was arrested on both charges on Aug. 18, 2010.

• Dominic Rashad Turner, 21, 202 Easy St., pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen firearm and was sentenced by Chaney to three years of probation, a $1,000 fine and $322.50 in costs. Turner was arrested Nov. 1.

In Sharkey County Circuit Court, additional grand jury indictments were made public by the district attorney’s office following arraignment or waiver or arraignment of defendents.

The Sharkey County Grand Jury was convened by Chaney on Aug. 15. Jurors reviewed evidence in 20 cases against 30 defendants and returned indictments in 15 of the cases, some of which were made public Aug. 19.

One case was reduced to a misdemeanor, two were continued to the January term and in two cases, jurors returned “no-bills,” meaning not enough evidence to go to trial.

Indictments made public this week were:

• Corre D. Bee, 25, 931 Lake Drive, Apt. 7B, Branch — malicious mischief, July 3.

• Kenneth Ray Davis Jr., 20, 83 Day St., Rolling Fork — burglary of a dwelling, July 21; vehicle burglary, July 21; and two counts possession of stolen firearm and possession of a weapon after felony conviction, July 22.

• Cassandra Logan, 41, 296 East St., Rolling Fork — burglary of a dwelling, July 4.

• Patricia Montgomery, 27, 165 Day St., Rolling Fork — aggravated assault-domestic violence, June 11.

• Vernon Montgomery, 29, 165 Day St., Rolling Fork — burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny, May 10, 2010; burglary of a dwelling, July 4.

• Waymon Powell, 28, 219 N. First St., Rolling Fork — larceny-stealing dog, July 6.

• Stetson Stamps, 17, 137 Trailer Park Lane, Anguilla — larceny-stealing dog, July 6.

• Roderick Jeffery Williams, 38, no street address available, Pantherburn — three cases shoplifting, third offense: Nov. 4, 2009, Nov. 25, 2010 and July 16.
