Vernon Plett

Vernon Plett died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 75.
Born in Oklahoma, Mr. Plett lived in Kansas for a number of years and moved to Vicksburg in 1983. He had been employed by Magnolia Homes and Vicksburg Paint & Glass and, for the last several years, he was employed by Price’s Glass and Mirror. He was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donetta Plett; his father, George Plett; and a son, Tom Plett.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Plett of Vicksburg; two sons, Tim Plett and wife Leisa of Maricopa, Ariz., and Tony Plett and wife Mary of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Shelly Plett of Vicksburg, Angela Harding and husband Bob of Madison and Tammy Ortega and husband Elued of Tempe, Ariz.; his mother, Linda B. Plett of Turpin, Okla.; one brother, Leo Plett and wife Puri of Turpin; five grandchildren, Jasmine Plett, Jamie Frost, Jared Frost, Tyler Harding and Cade Harding; one great-grandchild, Joshua Huggins; and a special friend, Lucy Young of Vicksburg.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susannah Grubbs Carr officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service. Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
