Tourists saw honesty

This letter is written in the hope that our sincere appreciation will be read, first, by the honest couple who found my husband’s money clip and turned it in at the Vicksburg National Military Park Visitor Center; and, second, by the equally honest park ranger who kept the money clip safe until we came looking for it about four hours later.

It’s gratifying to find people who, upon finding a money clip (with no ID), would take the time to turn it in. Also, it is gratifying to know the ranger kept it safe. We spent about four hours enjoying the beauty and quiet of the park, and the USS Cairo Museum and exhibit were wonderful. It wasn’t until we visited the gas station across from the park that we realized our loss.

Our visit to Vicksburg was truly amazing in many ways, and had a happy ending because of the honesty of its citizens. We left a reward with the ranger in hopes the couple who found the wallet would either call or come by the Visitor Center again — and, if not, it will be a donation to the park.
